Learning is a very personal experience.
Purpose
I feel that it is best to tailor my tutoring style to fit the student's needs. That said, you really have to mesh well with your tutor, and I may not be the right fit for everyone. I know that there are many learning styles, and my own varies by subject. Learning can be very frustrating; I found myself on more than one occasion feeling like the teacher wasn't answering the question I was trying to ask and I didn't know how to rephrase it. So, I try to listen to my tutees, and really ensure that I am answering the question they are really asking.

Personalized Tutoring
My story
I began my tutoring career by tutoring friends in my university classes; I discovered that as much as it helped them it also helped me. Then I realized that I absolutely love tutoring. When I discovered that my university had a peer tutoring program, I put in an application and couldn't wait for an interview. At that point I was hired by my university to tutor organic chemistry and physics. There is truly nothing better than to do what I love every day and seeing the proverbial light bulb light up someone's face. I spent approximately 3 years tutoring peers in biology, chemistry, genetics, algebra, a little bit of calculus, and physics.
what I do
I have been tutoring professionally for 15 years. Since I have a particular proclivity for organic chemistry I do favor it slightly, though I work with all chemistry classes; I always say it is the closest we will get to actual magic! That said, math is also a favorite. The struggle of how we teach math in school is very real, and I aim to change my students’ perspective on how they approach the material and the problems. This is why I do not mind starting with the pre algebra crowd and do work all the way through calculus. Rounding out the sciences with physics (or applied math) ensures that I have a good variety in my life. I am very comfortable with high school aged students all the way into college and beyond.
How I tutor
I engage each student in a manner that allows them to actively learn, understand new material, and retain the new material. By teaching in a building block manner, the student will understand the interconnections between the materials and be able to build on to foundation pieces easily.
college & high school students
My goal is to provide personalized tutoring to meet an individual’s needs. The many “light bulb” moments make learning fun and take the stress out of the learning process.
